Commemoration of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence

December 10, 2022

The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence campaign was commemorated with the participation of key stakeholders under the Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) Including Harmful Traditional Practices (HTPs) Project, funded by UNFPA.

The commemoration was conducted under the theme “Activism to End Violence Against Women and Girls.” The event brought together key project stakeholders to raise awareness about the prevention and elimination of violence against women and girls and to strengthen collective commitment to ending SGBV and harmful traditional practices.

Participants discussed the causes and consequences of violence against women and girls, the importance of prevention and early response, survivor-centered support services, and the role of communities and institutions in creating safe and violence-free environments.

The event provided an important platform for awareness raising, experience sharing, networking, and joint advocacy. It also strengthened stakeholders’ commitment to working together to prevent violence, protect women and girls, and promote their rights, dignity, and well-being.

The commemoration contributed to reinforcing the message that ending violence against women and girls requires collective action and sustained commitment from all sectors of society.
