A mentorship refresher training was conducted for teachers from target schools in Addis Ababa under the SGBV Including Harmful Traditional Practices (HTPs) Project, funded by UNFPA.
The training aimed to refresh and strengthen teachers’ knowledge and practical skills in providing effective mentorship and psychosocial support to students. Particular attention was given to identifying and responding appropriately to issues related to Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV), harmful traditional practices, and other challenges affecting the safety and well-being of students.
The training provided teachers with an opportunity to share experiences, discuss challenges, and strengthen their capacity to guide and support students in a safe, respectful, and confidential manner. Participants also discussed the importance of early identification, appropriate referral, and creating supportive school environments where students can seek help without fear or discrimination.
The refresher training contributed to strengthening the capacity of teachers and improving school-based mechanisms for SGBV prevention, protection, and response among students in the targeted schools.
