Provision of Sanitary Pads to Women and Girls with Disabilities

August 29, 2022

Under the SGBV Including Harmful Traditional Practices (HTPs) Project, funded by UNFPA, disposable sanitary pads were provided to Women and Girls with Disabilities (WWDs) as part of efforts to promote menstrual hygiene, dignity, and protection from vulnerabilities associated with inadequate access to menstrual hygiene products.

On 29 August 2022, sanitary pads were provided to the Ethiopian Women with Disabilities National Association (EWDNA). Similar distributions were also carried out at the Bahir Dar and Hawassa project sites.

The provision aimed to support WWDs with essential menstrual hygiene materials and contribute to their health, dignity, and well-being. It also formed part of broader GBV prevention efforts by addressing barriers and vulnerabilities that may increase the risk of violence and exploitation.

We express our sincere gratitude to UNFPA and the Government of Canada for their financial and technical support in strengthening GBV prevention and response initiatives and for supporting activities that promote the rights, dignity, and well-being of women and girls with disabilities.
