Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Awareness Training for Employers

August 18, 2022

A two-day Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) awareness training was conducted for employers in Addis Ketema Sub-City, Woreda 6/7, from 17–18 August 2022. The training was conducted under the SGBV Including Harmful Traditional Practices (HTPs) Project, with funding support from UNFPA.

The training aimed to strengthen employers’ understanding of SGBV, including its different forms, causes, effects, prevention, and appropriate response mechanisms. Particular attention was given to the responsibility of employers in creating safe, respectful, and violence-free workplaces.

Participants discussed the risks and challenges related to SGBV and HTPs, available support and referral services, reporting mechanisms, and ways to protect survivors and prevent further violence. The sessions also encouraged employers to promote gender equality, respect, and a supportive working environment for employees, particularly women and girls.

The two-day training provided an opportunity for employers to share experiences, identify challenges, and strengthen their knowledge and commitment to preventing and responding to SGBV and HTPs in their workplaces and communities.
