Refresher Training Strengthens Employers’ Capacity to Prevent SGBV and HTPs

August 15, 2022

Addis Ababa — August 15, 2022: Save Your Generation Ethiopia (SYGE) conducted a Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) refresher training for employers in Addis Ketema Sub-City Woredas 6 and 7 under the SGBV, including Harmful Traditional Practices (HTPs), prevention project funded by UNFPA.

The training was designed to refresh participants’ knowledge of SGBV and HTPs and strengthen their capacity to identify risks, promote prevention, and respond appropriately to cases of violence within workplaces and surrounding communities.

Participants reviewed key concepts related to SGBV, discussed common risk factors and harmful practices, and explored practical approaches for preventing violence and promoting safe and respectful working environments. The session also provided an opportunity for employers to share experiences, challenges, and lessons learned from their workplaces.

The training emphasized the important role employers can play in preventing SGBV by promoting gender equality, challenging harmful social norms, raising awareness, and supporting appropriate referral and response mechanisms for individuals who experience or are at risk of violence.

The refresher training is part of SYGE’s broader efforts to strengthen the capacity of community and workplace stakeholders to prevent and respond to SGBV and HTPs. With support from UNFPA, the initiative contributes to creating safer, more inclusive, and protective environments for women, girls, and other vulnerable community members.
