Refresher Training Strengthens Employers’ Capacity to Prevent SGBV and HTPs

August 15, 2022

Addis Ababa — August 15, 2022: Save Your Generation Ethiopia (SYGE) conducted a refresher training on Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV), including Harmful Traditional Practices (HTPs) for employers in Yeka Woreda 9 under the SGBV and HTPs prevention project funded by UNFPA.

The training was organized to refresh and strengthen employers’ knowledge of SGBV and HTPs and enhance their capacity to identify, prevent, and appropriately respond to violence and harmful practices affecting women, girls, and other vulnerable individuals.

Participants reviewed key concepts related to SGBV and HTPs, discussed risk factors and prevention strategies, and shared experiences and challenges encountered within their workplaces and communities. The refresher format also provided an opportunity for participants to reinforce previously acquired knowledge and identify areas requiring further attention.

The training emphasized the important role employers can play in creating safe and respectful working environments. Participants were encouraged to promote gender equality, challenge harmful social norms, raise awareness among employees, and support appropriate referral and response mechanisms when protection concerns arise.

The activity also strengthened stakeholder engagement at the local level by providing employers with an opportunity to exchange experiences and discuss practical approaches to preventing SGBV and HTPs.

Through this intervention, SYGE continues to build the capacity of key community and workplace actors to contribute to the prevention of violence and harmful practices. The training forms part of the organization’s broader efforts, with support from UNFPA, to promote safer and more protective environments for women, girls, and vulnerable community members.
