Addis Ababa — June 13: A panel discussion focusing on Female Domestic Workers (FDWs) was held at Sarem Hotel to provide a platform for stakeholders to discuss the challenges, protection concerns, and rights of women engaged in domestic work.
The discussion brought together relevant stakeholders to exchange experiences and perspectives on issues affecting female domestic workers, including vulnerability to Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV), access to support services, workplace protection, and awareness of their rights.
Participants emphasized the importance of coordinated efforts among government institutions, civil society organizations, community representatives, and other stakeholders to strengthen protection mechanisms and improve access to information and support services for FDWs.
The panel also provided an opportunity to identify key challenges faced by female domestic workers and discuss practical measures for addressing these challenges. Participants highlighted the need for continued awareness creation, stronger referral mechanisms, and collaborative interventions that promote the safety, dignity, and well-being of FDWs.
For Save Your Generation Ethiopia (SYGE), the discussion represented an important opportunity to strengthen stakeholder engagement and promote collective action to prevent and respond to violence and other protection concerns affecting female domestic workers.
