Addis Ababa — As part of its efforts to raise public awareness on Gender-Based Violence (GBV) prevention, Save Your Generation Ethiopia (SYGE) used the images of prominent public figures and celebrities in awareness billboards designed to reach a wider community audience.
The billboards featured influential personalities as advocates for GBV prevention, using their public visibility to attract attention and communicate important messages on preventing violence, promoting gender equality, and encouraging collective responsibility for creating safer communities.
The use of celebrity figures was intended to make GBV prevention messages more visible, relatable, and engaging to the public. By placing the messages in highly visible public locations, the initiative sought to reach diverse audiences, including young people, women, men, and community members who may not otherwise participate in formal awareness activities.
The billboard campaign complemented SYGE’s broader SGBV prevention and awareness interventions by using creative communication and public advocacy to encourage communities to reject violence and promote respect, equality, and positive social norms.
The initiative demonstrated the potential of public figures and visual communication to amplify social advocacy messages and encourage community dialogue around sensitive issues such as GBV.
